PIPE CONVEYOR

The "Pipe Conveyor" represents a breakthrough in Belt Conveyor Technology overcoming the limitations of conventional conveyors.

As the name implies the belt is wrapped into a cylindrical pipe form, guided by six hexagonally arranged idler along the conveyor route. This allows the conveyor to negotiate enabling it to negotiate obstacles that would onstruct a conventional straight conveyor. With the product completely enclose within the belt pipe, spillage is eliminated along the conveyor run on both the carrying and the return side.

Advantages

This system of enclosed material transportation when compared to conventional troughed belt conveyors has many advantages which are indicated below :

  1. The material being conveyed is protected against external influences such as rain, dust, extreme temperatures wind.
  2. Protection of the environment and control of pollution
  3. As the carrying and return strands of the belt are closed, there is no spillage of material from the loaded belt and no dropping of the material from the return belt.
  4. Low space requirement by compact plant design.
  5. Dust free transport of pulverulent materials.
  6. Conveyor can be curved horizontally up to 90 deg
  7. Reliable flexible design (eliminating transfer towers) horizontally and vertical curves enable the conveyor to be routed over varying terrain conditions.
  8. Incresed inclining capacity, conveyor can rise at steep angles.

Application

The pipe conveyor system can be used for carrying all types of bulk materials from the fine material to 400mm lump size. Pipe conveyor systems are already in use in the following industries.

Materials being transported by pipe conveyor include materials such as Copper concentrate, Cellulose, Cement clinker, Chalk, Fertilizer, Fly ash, Lime stone, Limestone dust, Petrol coke, Potash, Phosphate, Pozzolana, Printing ink/Sludge, Sinter ore, Waste rock, Wood chipe, Coal, Gravel, Cereals, Sugar, Salt, Pulp, Iron ore, Coke, Pellets, Nickel ore, Slag, etc.

NPL has diversified its activities & executed more that 60 large Bulk Material Handling Projects on turnkey basis, for industries like Cement, Minerals, Power, Coal, Iron & steel, Fertilizer, Glass etc.

NPL has successfully commissioned a 180 mtrs. long 'S' shaped Pipe Conveyor at M/s Vikram Ispat for transporting DRI material at capacity of 400 TPH.

NPL has also executed a prestigious contract, on turnkey basis for M/s Birla Copper (A division of Indo Gulf Fertilisers & Chemical Corporation Ltd.) for a 3.3km. long Pipe Conveyor, one of the world's largest pipe conveyor, for conveying of raw material for a copper project, from Jetty to the plant. This conveyor has a designed capacity for conveying copper concentrate at 1760 TPH, Rock Phosphate at 1540 TPH and coal at the rate of 1100 TPH. This conveyor, with a life of 22 mtrs, has a 90 deg. horizontal curve and seven vertical curves in its conveying route.

Design

In a pipe conveyor system the belt runs flat over the head, tail and snub pulleys. The belt is troughed by idlers at the feeding point. Once the belt is loaded, it is formed into a pipe by overlapping its edges. At the discharge end the belt opens out to a troughed belt running flat over the pulleys. Material can be transported on the return belt. Intermediate loading can be provided at any point by opening and closing the belt at the required feed point.
